Ɏ AN IVORY ‘COURT LADY AND MAGPIE’ SNUFF BOTTLE, c. 1920 China, late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period (1850-1949). The flattened octagonal body, rising from a short rectangular foot to a cylindrical neck, surmounted by a domed stopper. One side depicting an elegant court lady on a terrace, the reverse with a magpie perched on blossoming peonies, both accompanied by poetic inscriptions and seals. The sides decorated with chrysanthemum blossoms and calligraphy.
