Ɏ A STAINED IVORY ‘BEAUTY BENEATH FLOWERING TREE’ SNUFF BOTTLE, c. 1920 China, late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period (1850-1949). Of flattened baluster form, rising from a short circular foot to a cylindrical neck, and flanked by openwork handles carved as stylized fish. One side depicting in relief an elegant lady standing beneath a flourishing tree beside rockwork, the reverse with the Chinese inscription Meiren Ruyu (‘Beauty as Pure as Jade’). The stained ivory of a warm caramel tone.
