A FINE INSIDE PAINTED GLASS ‘SCHOLARS PLAYING WEIQI‘ SNUFF BOTTLE China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. The flattened upright oval body, supported on a short oval foot and rising to a cylindrical neck. The interior finely painted, depicting on one side four elderly scholars engaged in a game of weiqi beneath drooping willow branches, at the upper left calligraphic inscription and a red artist seal. The reverse painted with a mountainous landscape with cliffs, waterfalls, rocky outcrops, and trees emerging through drifting mist. Stopper: Pale green glass stopper, carved spoon Dimensions: Height 95 mm (incl. stopper), Diameter 21 mm (neck) and 9 mm (mouth)
