A CARNELIAN AGATE ‘DRAGON CARP’ SNUFF BOTTLE, REPUBLIC PERIOD China, 1912-1949. The flattened globular body rising from a rectangular foot with rounded corners, developing through high, softly curved shoulders into a short cylindrical neck with a narrow mouth and an inwardly beveled rim. The exterior carved in high relief on one side, depicting a leaping carp with a prominent head and elongated fins. The finely polished, translucent stone of a striking interplay of garnet red, warm caramel brown, and deep dark tones, occasionally traversed by icy white banding.
