A LAPIS LAZULI ‘FLOWING FOLIAGE’ SNUFF BOTTLE, REPUBLIC PERIOD China, 1912-1949. The flattened globular body softly curving toward the oval splayed foot and rising through sloping shoulders to a short cylindrical neck with an unusually wide mouth and flat rim. The exterior carved in high relief on both sides with a vegetal motif of long, flowing leaves. The finely polished, opaque stone of a rich deep-blue tone, subtly mottled with whitish inclusions and enlivened by minute golden flecks.
