A JADEITE ‘MYTHICAL CREATURES AMID FOLIAGE’ SNUFF BOTTLE, REPUBLIC PERIOD China, 1912-1949. Finely hollowed, the flattened oval body supported on a rectangular foot with rounded corners and rising to a short neck of similar form, surmounted by an unusually wide mouth and a flat rim. The exterior carved in high relief with a pair of feline mythical beasts climbing the shoulders of the bottle, each holding a foliate spray in its jaws. The finely polished, opaque stone of an attractive interplay of whitish tones with variegated shades of mint green, enlivened by occasional dark veining.
