A SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN, LATE QING DYNASTY TO REPUBLIC PERIOD China, late 19th to early 20th century. Carved as seated Guanyin, dressed in fine robes open at the chest and tied around the waist, the textile incised with fine scrolling clouds, holding a scroll in her left hand, and prayer’s beads in her right hand, and the oval face with downcast eyes and subtle smile. The hair combed and tied in a tall chignon partly covered by a cowl, some details highlighted in green and red pigments. The semi-translucent stone is of a pale celadon color transitioning to a creamy beige, and with areas of darker celadon. Dimensions: Height 11.3 cm
