Ɏ A LARGE INLAID LACQUER ‘LANDSCAPE’ PANEL WITH STAND, QING DYNASTY China, 19th century. Finely inlaid on a mustard lacquer ground with various materials, including soapstone of multiple colors, zitan wood, mother-of-pearl, bone, and lapis lazuli, depicting a riverside landscape composed of small islets and craggy rocks from which pine trees emerge. The scene is enlivened by pagodas, palaces, and figures, including seated scholars and a fisherman holding a caught fish. The reverse is lacquered black and painted with a calmer riverside scene, showing craggy rocks in the distance, pines, and two figures standing by a pair of houses. The panel is mounted in a wood frame and fitted into two rosewood grooved uprights of a matching stand with finely carved archaistic designs.
