the four wood figures carved in joined-block consutrction (yosegi-zukuri), each modelled as one of the Four Heavenly Kings, decorated in pigment and gilt, crystal inlaid eyes, each standing on a writhing demon; Jikokuten holding a spear, Komokuten with writing brush and sutra scroll, Bishamonten with pagoda and staff, Zochoten with vajra, fitted on later wood stands 39.9 cm. high (Jikokuten) 40 cm. high (Komokuten) 41 cm. high (Bishamonten) 40.7 cm. high (Zojoten) Each representing one of the cardinal directions, the Four Heavenly Kings comprise: Vaisravana (Bishamonten), Guardian of the North Virudhaka (Zojoten), Guardian of the South Dhrtarastra (Jikokuten), Guardian of the East Virupaksa (Komokuten), Guardian of the West 來源 壺中居，東京 出版 山本勉，和田圭子,〈新出の大佛殿様四天王像について〉，《國華》，卷1186，1994年9月，頁11–20 小林忠編，《岡田美術館名品撰》，卷1，東京，2019年，編號152
