拍品描述

Japanese wood box 22.1 cm 來源 壺中居,東京 展覽 《秋季支部大会》,日本陶磁協会新潟支部,1977年(沒載圖) The wealth and sophistication of the Tang elite fostered the production of a wide range of luxury wares, among which finely crafted and elegant lamps were particularly notable. While oil lamps had long been in use, contemporary sources also record the use of beeswax candles, which would likely have been inserted into the present stand. A closely comparable candle holder, attributed to the Tang dynasty, is preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing, acc. no. xin-39074. See also a related incense burner with a lotus-petal-form bowl, attributed to the Sui to early Tang dynasty, from the Charles B. Hoyt Collection, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, acc. no. 50.1957.
