TWO SMALL INDIAN BRONZE FIGURES OF SHIVA, c. 1900s India, late 19th to early 20th century. The figure on the left represents Bhikshatana, Shiva as the Lord of Ascetics and the Supreme Beggar. Four-armed, a snake coils around his hips, and his hair is arranged before the sirischakra at the back of his head. He holds a drum, a trident, a begging bowl, and a tuft of grass with which he feeds the little deer that once accompanied him. The figure on the right depicts a four-armed Vishnu, standing in sampada on a circular lotus base, wearing a short dhoti secured by a multi-stranded belt and adorned with elaborate jewelry, the hair styled into a high headdress.
