A BRONZE FIGURE OF VYAGHRAPADA, INDIA, 18TH CENTURY India, 18th century. Vyaghrapada is depicted standing upright on an integral flat base. The figure’s tiger-like legs, ending in paws, and his long feline tail are carefully rendered, while he holds ritual attributes—a cup and a bell—in his hands. The modeling is simple yet expressive, emphasizing both his animalistic features and his ceremonial role as a devoted sage. Dimensions: Height 8 cm Vyaghrapada, whose name means ‘The Tiger-Footed One’ is a revered Shaivite sage renowned for his unwavering devotion to Shiva. According to tradition, Shiva granted him the feet and claws of a tiger, enabling him to move swiftly through forests and climb trees with ease in search of the freshest bilva leaves and flowers for worship. His tiger-like attributes symbolize both spiritual dedication and the divine assistance bestowed upon a devoted follower.
