A ‘PHOENIX SIX-EYE’ AND ‘NAGA SKIN’ AGATE DZI BEAD Tibet, 19th century or earlier. Of elongated tubular form, featuring six well-defined phoenix eyes, skillfully etched to its surface. The opaque and etched agate of anthracite color. Central drilling allowing for suspension as a pendant. Dimensions: Length 5.6 cm The Phoenix Eye Dzi bead is a rare and highly auspicious talisman within Tibetan bead traditions, often referred to in Tibetan belief as the Eyes of the Buddha or Bodhisattva, symbolize wisdom, compassion, and spiritual insight. Closely linked to the symbolism of the phoenix, the bead also represents transformation and renewal: the ability to overcome hardship, abandon what is no longer needed, and emerge strengthened and spiritually renewed. Naga skin weathering refers to the natural crackled or textured surface that appears on aged Dzi beads, resembling the scales of a Naga (snake), the mystical serpent deity in Tibetan and Hindu traditions. In Tibetan culture, Nagas are guardians of wisdom, hidden treasures, and spiritual knowledge. The presence of Naga skin patterns on a Dzi bead is considered highly auspicious.
