† A LARGE THANGKA OF A NOBLEMAN Tibet, late 19th to early 20th century. Distemper and gold on cloth. Depicting a nobleman seated in dhayanasana on a cushioned throne, his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra holding a lotus sprig, a script in his left hand, and dressed in flowing and finely detailed robes. The face with a serene expression, a moustache above a bow-shaped mouth, downcast eyes, and the head surmounted by a bejeweled, five-tiered crown. He is backed by lush greenery and surrounded by two Buddhas above and worshippers below.
