A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF SHADAKSHARI LOKESHVARA Himalayan region, 20th century. Finely modeled, seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus pedestal, the primary hands folded in anjali mudra before the chest, the secondary hands raised in vitarka mudra at shoulder height, one holding a lotus blossom. The face displays a serene expression with downcast eyes, framed by pendulous earlobes suspending large round earrings, the hair arranged in a tall chignon behind a foliate crown. The bodhisattva is richly adorned with inlaid jewelry. The underside sealed and incised with a double-vajra. Dimensions: Height 14 cm Shadakshari Lokeshvara, one of the thirty-one forms of Avalokiteshvara according to the Sadhanamala, is often regarded as the patron of Tibet and the progenitor of the Dalai Lama lineage. He is personified by the six-syllable mantra of the Buddhists, 'Om mani padme hum'.
