A MONGOLIAN KILIM RUG OR WALL HANGING c.1920 or earlier, Woven in naturally dyed and undyed wool thread depicting five phoenixes/fenghuang or birds enclosed within a Chinese style fretted/knotted panel, typically bordered by polychrome stripes, 207cm high 158cm width Though most likely Mongolian, some textiles/fabrics of this type were also produced in Gansu, Northwest China Good overall condition. Some splaying to threads/weave at the bottom, and one area of noticable wear (partial hole) to lower portion, as well as several smaller. General wear commensurate with age and use throughout including fading. No apparent major tears or losses except to bottom fringe
