A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE BOMBAY SCHOOL EARTHENWARE POTTERY PLATTER OR CHARGER c.1880s The dish decorated in slipware technique with central roundel depicting Krishna and Radha resting beneath a tree with a reclined bull, detailed with fine sgrafitto and incised features, the border decorated with figures perfoming the Lila, sanskrit mark to base, 46cm diameter A comparable example is housed in the Royal Collection Trust (RCIN 28710), and another in the Victoria & Albert Museum (IS.2855-1883) The Bombay School of Art was also known as Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy School of Art and was established in 1857. Designs reflect traditional Indian iconography but were also retailed at luxury department stores such as Liberty & Co of London
