A PAIR OF BOMBAY SCHOOL EARTHENWARE POTTERY EWERS 19th century, India Each of squat form with slender neck and spout and painted in mid-blue and turquoise with floral motifs in the Persian taste, marked to base, 28.5cm high The Bombay School of Art was also known as Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy School of Art and was established in 1857. Designs reflect traditional Indian iconography but were also retailed at luxury department stores such as Liberty & Co of London Both pots having glaze flaking to edges, particularly foot rims. One ewer with significant loss to underside of cover, and extensive cracking to body, the other in better order with only minor flaking/losses to edges including small amount to spout. Crazing all over as well as general wear commensurate with age and use throughout.
