This historic map is from Reverend Jebidiah Morse's The American Gazetteer, Exhibiting...the American Continent, also of the West-India Islands.... This is from the first edition of the work which was published in 1797 in Boston, Massachusetts by S. Hall, Thomas & Andrews, et al. Reverend Jebidiah Morse (1761-1826) was born to the Connecticut colony and published numerous maps. He was a geographer and produced numerous textbooks used for students in the newly established United States of America. These textbooks earned him the epithet, "Father of American geography."
