Relief Plaque of Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), 1921. A bronze relief plaque depicting Theodor Herzl, designed by sculptor and educator Boris Schatz, founder of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (originally the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts) in Jerusalem. The plaque features a profile portrait of Herzl alongside the biblical figure of Moses. Incorporated into the composition is Hebrew text drawn from Herzl )s 1896 book, The Jewish State, together with his celebrated slogan. This work was included in the memorial exhibition Boris Schatz (1867 - 1932) at the Bezalel National Museum, Jerusalem, held December 1962 - January 1963. Listed as Catalog No. 60, the exhibition catalog records the work as: "Herzl, bronze relief, 44 x 54 cm, 1921 (360)." From a Coatesville, PA estate.
