John Moore (British b.1980) 'Vane' disc bracelets, set of three

Circa 2001 Aluminium, magnetic clasp to the larger two Unmarked Two approximately 8.5cm diameter, one 7cm diameter (3) Notes: The current lot are part of a series of pieces titled Vane, comprising multiple discs of coloured anodised aluminium with magnetic silver fastenings. The aesthetic was engineered but the movement was organic and snake-like. Vane won the Kayman Award 2008 from the BJA (British Jewellers Association, now known as the National Association of Jewellers), and the EUNIQUE World Crafts Council Award 2011. John is perhaps best known for his large collars, the first of which, Verto, was commissioned in 2010 by Tuan Lee, a Singaporean collector, globally renowned for commissioning giant jewellery. Approximately 90 aluminium discs, brightly coloured with enamel paint, were spaced along a spine of extruded silicone. Verto became a series of pieces, each unique in colour or material and with variations in size. The smallest was made for John?s first appearance at Goldsmiths? Fair in 2015 and became winner of the Goldsmiths? Company Award in the 2016 Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council Awards. It was subsequently shown at Masterpiece by Didier Ltd and was later sold by Elisabetta Cipriani to art collector, Tiqui Atencio. In 2018, eight years after the first Verto necklace, collector Tuan Lee returned with a commission for another large Verto necklace, this time made in silver with 48 diamonds. In 2019, this piece, titled Lacewing, won John his second Goldsmiths? Company Award and was featured on the cover of 1842 Magazine (The Economist) by journalist Melanie Grant.
