ANDRÉ ROMAIN PHILÉAS GUILMET: A FRENCH BRASS, PATINATED BRASS NOVELTY MANTEL CLOCK IN THE FORM OF AN INDUSTRIAL STEAM HAMMER MOVEMENT BY JAPY FRÈRES, CIRCA 1885 The silvered dial inscribed H. W. Bedford, 67 Regent Street, London. W, with applied Roman chapters, gilt brass hands, the eight day twin barrel movement with strike on bell and formerly with pendulum which should rise and fall with the escapement and strike on anvil below, black slate base, the back plate stamped Medailles d'or GLT Paris, JAPY FRÈRES and numbered 447, no pendulum or figure to side 45.5cm high, 31cm wide, 41cm deepLiterature: Derek Roberts, Mystery, Novelty and Fantasy Clocks, Pennsylvania, 1999, p.260, figs.22-18,19.
