λ GERALD BENNEY (1930-2008)- A RARE SILVER FLATWARE SERVICE FOR TWELVE SETTINGS IN THE SABLE PATTERN LONDON 1973 Comprising: 24 pairs of small table knives with steel blades and forks; 12 pair of large table knives with steel blades and forks; 12 large spoons; 11 large spoons (with 1 similar plated example); 11 small spoons (with 1 similar plated example); 12 small forks; a later stilton scoop, initialled BMGMcA SA&RA McA 1976; 12 soup spoons; set of 6 pairs of servers approx. 7687g (247oz) weighable The Sable pattern was designed by Benney for Viners 1960-1969. Gerald Benney informed the McAlpines that this service in silver was at the time unique. However, although rare, it was not unique and a similar service from 1967 with the Brabourne crest sold Sotheby's London, The Family Collection of the late Countess Mountbatten of Burma, 24th March 2021, lot 195.
