λ SYDNEY HARPLEY (1927-1992)- A BRONZE FIGURE 'SWIMMER' CIRCA 1988 Set on a Travertine marble base, unsigned, remains of auction paperwork to underside (a digital copy of the auction catalogue is available) 15.5cm high overall, figure 68cm longPurchased by Lady McAlpine at the charity she organised for the Great Ormond Street Wishing Well Ball for the Renaissance of Great Ormond Street Hospital Friday 23rd September 1988. Sydney had promised to sign the work, but Lady McAlpine's husband was dying and she forgot to take the bronze to him before he too became too ill and passed away.
