A GREEK CHALCEDONY EROTIC INTAGLIO OF A NUDE ERECT MEN, CIRCA 3RD CENTURY A.D.Carved from translucent chalcedony with faint lilac and milky-white hues, the oval intaglio is engraved with the figure of a nude male shown in profile, his body finely modelled with naturalistic musculature. The figure stands on a ground line within a beaded border, the stone polished to a soft lustre that enhances its internal clarity. Minor inclusions and faint surface scratches attest to ancient wear and handling.The reverse is smoothly convex and plain, displaying subtle mineral veining and small greenish inclusions typical of chalcedony.Engraved gems of this type were personal adornments and served as signet seals, often expressing themes of fertility, desire, and the human form through refined miniature carving.Height: 2.3cm
