A MARBLE DOUBLE “EYE” IDOL Tell Brak Region, Circa 3500–3300 B.C. Carved from creamy-grey marble with darker mottling, this compact figure displays the characteristic form of the Tell Brak “eye” idols. The upper section is shaped as a pair of large, circular eyes, each drilled through to create deep apertures linked by a central ridge. Below, the body is rendered as a broad, rectangular block with two vertical incised lines running down the front, defining the stylised torso. The surfaces show ancient smoothing, with light abrasion and mineral accretions visible across the stone. No reverse details are provided in the images. These schematic figures are thought to have served as votive objects deposited within sacred precincts at Tell Brak and other sites of northern Mesopotamia, their simplified forms focusing symbolic attention on the prominently carved eyes.
