AN ANATOLIAN MARBLE IDOL, KUSURA TYPE Circa 2700–2100 B.C. Carved from pale marble with a warm, mottled surface, this stylised idol features a broad, triangular lower body and a narrow, tapering neck surmounted by a rounded head. The front and reverse are flattened, with the surfaces marked by diagonal abrasion and natural mineral accretions. The outline is cleanly contoured, the shoulders minimally indicated by slight lateral projections, and the overall form retains the characteristic abstract geometry associated with Kusura-type figures. Idols of this type are associated with Early Bronze Age Anatolia, where they are understood to have served as symbolic representations within domestic or funerary contexts.
