A MARBLE EYE IDOL 4th Millennium B.C. Carved from pale, finely grained marble with warm surface toning, this small idol is shaped as a schematic anthropomorphic figure with a rounded head and broad, tapering body. The face is indicated by two drilled circular eyes beneath a shallowly incised brow line, with a further groove marking the neck. The lower body is defined by a horizontal band of incised diagonal strokes. The surfaces show age-softened edges, encrustation within the incisions, and minor abrasions consistent with long burial. The reverse is plain, following the natural contours of the marble with light surface pitting. Idols of this type belong to the Early Bronze Age tradition of abstract anthropomorphic figures, often associated with ritual or symbolic functions in domestic and funerary contexts.
