A MEDIEVAL SILVER RING Circa 14th Century A.D. Cast in silver, this ring displays a broad, rectangular bezel with its upper surface engraved in low relief with a symmetrical foliate design. The motif comprises curling tendrils, clustered berries, and a central vertical element, all contained within a subtly contoured border. The shoulders are shaped into stepped, linear mouldings that continue the decorative scheme, while the hoop tapers to a narrower, rounded band. The surface exhibits a soft grey patina with areas of darker toning and scattered abrasions. The reverse of the bezel is gently hollowed, and the interior of the hoop shows smoothing from wear. Rings of this kind, combining vegetal ornament with broad architectural shoulders, belong to the repertoire of 14th-century medieval personal adornment, their engraved designs frequently serving both decorative and symbolic purposes.
