A GREEK/EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN AMETHYST OWL, CIRCA 4TH-3RD CENTURY B.C. A Greek/Eastern Mediterranean amethyst owl, circa 4th-3rd Century B.C. Carved from deep purple amethyst, the bird shown standing frontally with large rounded eyes, pointed beak and raised ear tufts. The body is decorated with deeply incised feathering arranged in overlapping rows across the breast and wings. The translucent stone varies from dark violet to brighter purple at the edges and thinner areas, with natural inclusions and surface accretions visible throughout. The eyes are separately detailed with pale circular surrounds and dark central pupils, giving the figure a striking frontal expression. Minor chips and losses are visible, particularly around the ears, feet and edges, consistent with age. Height: 5cm Weight: 67g
