A MAGNIFICENT HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSSBOW FIBULA (BROOCH) LATE ROMAN, 3RD-4TH CENTURY A.D. Of monumental ceremonial form, the richly constructed gold fibula composed of an arched bow terminating in prominent onion-shaped finials above an elongated faceted catchplate, finely embellished throughout with niello-filled geometric ornament and elegant Latin inscriptions reading VTERE FELIX (“Use with happiness” or “Wear in good fortune”). Executed in exceptionally high-karat gold and displaying refined granulated collars, architectonic symmetry, and superb Late Imperial workmanship. Such gold crossbow fibulae functioned not merely as garment fasteners but as symbols of rank, authority, and imperial favor within the Late Roman court and military hierarchy.
