A BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD MARRIAGE RING, EARLY BYZANTINE CIRCA 6TH-7TH CENTURY A.D. Solid high-karat gold matrimonial ring with oval bezel engraved in relief with the traditional Christian marriage scene depicting Christ standing centrally and joining the hands of the bride and groom, each figure shown haloed and wearing draped garments. The composition represents the sacred union of marriage blessed by Christ, a characteristic iconography of early Byzantine wedding rings. Plain rounded hoop with natural age wear.
