A GRECO-PERSIAN CHALCEDONY PYRAMIDAL STAMP SEAL WITH A LION ATTACKING AN IBEX Late 6th Century B.C., Archaic Western Court Style Carved from translucent grey chalcedony with soft lavender and blue tonalities, this pyramidal stamp seal displays gently convex faces tapering to a rounded apex. The surface shows areas of natural inclusions and mineral accretions, with a lateral perforation drilled cleanly through the upper section for suspension. One side bears a finely engraved scene of a lion attacking an ibex, the forms rendered in shallow intaglio with flowing contour lines and lightly hatched detailing. The reverse faces are plain, their surfaces smoothed but marked by small cavities and crystalline inclusions characteristic of the stone. Stamp seals of this type served as personal devices for marking ownership and authorising transactions, their engraved imagery functioning both as identity markers and as protective motifs within administrative and personal contexts.
