This finely carved Romano-Egyptian scarab is rendered in mottled green and white jasper, a material highly prized for its natural variegation and polished translucence. Dating to approximately the 1st century A.D., it reflects the enduring syncretism between Egyptian religious symbolism and Greco-Roman craftsmanship during the imperial period. The underside features a delicately incised representation of Anubis, the jackal-headed god associated with embalming and protection of the dead.
