A GREEK SILVER INTAGLIO IN THE FORM OF AN AMULET, CIRCA 3RD CENTURY A.D. Modelled in solid silver, this oval amuletic intaglio depicts a stylised figure standing in profile, holding a raised weapon or sceptre while subduing a rearing animal, possibly a lion. The composition is framed within a raised border and rendered in low relief, the contours softened by age and handling. A small suspension loop is cast integrally at the top, suggesting it was intended for personal wear. The surface shows a smooth silvery patina with areas of dark toning and minor pitting consistent with ancient casting. Such silver amulets were worn as protective talismans, the imagery symbolising divine power and the triumph of order over chaos. The dynamic pose and schematic rendering reflect late Classical and Hellenistic traditions absorbed into later provincial Greek metalwork. Height: 1.6cm
