AN EGYPTIAN AGATE BABOON AMULET OF THOTH IN THE FORM OF SEATED BABOON, CIRCA 664-332 B.C. Carved from translucent caramel-brown agate, this amulet depicts a squatting baboon rendered in compact, stylised form. The baboon is shown upright on a flat, rectangular base, with forepaws resting on its knees and the head held forward in a pose of alert composure. The stone exhibits warm ochre and honey hues with scattered dark mineral inclusions and areas of natural polish, accentuating the smooth modelling and softly rounded contours. Fine incised lines articulate the facial features, limbs, and base, while the body remains broadly polished, enhancing the gem’s lustrous quality.
