TWO EGYPTIAN AGATE FINGERS AMULETS, NEW KINGDOM, DYNASTY XIX, CIRCA 1279–1212 B.C. Finely carved in warm, banded agate, these compact amulets take the distinctive form of paired human fingers, rendered in softly rounded relief and tapering gently towards the tips. The translucent stone, alive with natural striations of honeyed amber, milky white, and deep russet, has been skilfully shaped to emphasise both the organic curvature of the digits and the inherent beauty of the material. The silhouettes are immediately recognisable and tactile, their smooth planes and subtle modelling conveying a quiet but potent presence. The surfaces are carefully polished, allowing the agate’s layered bands to catch and refract the light in shifting tones of gold and crimson. A shallow central groove articulates the division between the two fingers, while delicate incisions define the knuckles and nails with understated precision. The natural variegation of the stone creates a rhythmic play of colour across the length of each amulet, enhancing the sense of vitality and lending each piece a unique visual character. Each example is pierced longitudinally for suspension, the perforation discreetly integrated along the axis of the form so that the amulet would have hung vertically when worn.
