An antique cast iron farm implement seat from the Canadian company L.D. Sawyer and Company. Cast by the L.D. Sawyer Company in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Circa 1870-1892. This seat model likely predates 1892, which is when the Massey family purchased a major stake in the business to establish the Sawyer-Massey brand. It features SAWYER'S in distinct, open-letter openwork along the upper curved rim. The cutouts served two practical purposes: providing ventilation for the farmer and allowing rainwater to drain away. While widely referred to by collectors as a tractor seat, it was originally designed for horse-drawn agricultural implements such as seeders, plows, mowers, or road-grading machinery. Dimensions: 18 inches W x 16 deep.
