Elie Anatole Pavil (French, 1873-1948), an Impressionist oil on Panel landscape depicting a harbour scene with boats, a quay, and figures fishing in the foreground, capturing the soft play of natural light on the water. Signed lower left. Anatole Pavil was born in Odessa and moved to Paris in 1892, where he settled in Montmartre. He was deeply influenced by the Impressionists and was a friend of Camille Pissarro. Claude Monet reportedly described Pavil's paintings as little marvels. Pavil is best known for his atmospheric scenes of Parisian life, including street scenes, cafes, and parks like Le Parc Monceau. He frequently painted the banks of the Seine and the Canal de l'Ourcq. His work often explores the effects of light and weather on urban and river landscapes.
