Within a visual structure defined by minimalism and detachment, the work explores the spiritual resonance and contemporary condition of traditional cultural symbols. The photograph adopts a vertical composition organized into a tripartite structure. The upper and lower sections consist of pure gray-brown planes, while the center is occupied by a mist-shrouded expanse of water. Rising from its surface, a solitary rugged rock stands in quiet isolation, recalling the format of a traditional hanging scroll landscape painting. Rather than resorting to critique or nostalgia, Dong places this emblematic literati symbol within a contemporary visual order with restraint and precision.
