Structured around geometrically divided “creases,” the work employs mixed media to simulate the mottled surface of corroded metal. Through transitions of warm brown, off-white, and rust tones, it evokes traces of time and weathering. The work challenges the boundaries of the two-dimensional picture plane: what appears to be a flat surface generates the illusion of folds and bends through subtle shifts in color and texture, even seeming to lift slightly into space, thereby blurring the distinction between painting and sculpture. With remarkable technical precision, Fu transforms the flat image into a seemingly tangible object, while the contradictory geometric divisions create Escher-like visual paradoxes.
