Through an extremely restrained visual language, the works investigate the fundamental nature of space, materiality, and perception, offering a sober reflection on contemporary urban existence. Constructed almost like architectural maquettes, the works faithfully recreate the raw structures of unfinished interiors, including wall markings, the proportions of door openings, and even the rough texture of exposed concrete surfaces. Through this precise translation of architectural reality, Cai transforms ordinary construction elements into autonomous visual forms. The power of these works lies in the fusion of sculptural materiality and perspectival illusion. Existing between object and image, they occupy an intentionally ambiguous state: they are tangible three-dimensional forms, yet they simultaneously generate the sensation of infinitely receding pictorial space.
