CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER FOR THE AMERICAN MARKET Early 19th Century From the service of China Trade merchant Edward Carrington of Providence, Rhode Island. Decoration of an American spread-wing eagle, taken from an early version of the Great Seal of the United States. Berry border. Cup height 2.5". Saucer diameter 5.5". Notes: Edward Carrington (1775-1843) served as supercargo and resided in Canton from 1802 to 1810, eventually appointed U.S. consul. He amassed a huge fortune in the China Trade and his house still stands today in Providence. The absence of a condition report does not imply an object is free of defects.
