CHINESE SCHOOL 19th Century Dutch folly fort, Pearl River, Canton. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 18" x 24". Framed 22.5" x 28.5". Notes: A folly fort, sometimes referred to as simply a "folly", is a very small fort built in shallow water, used exclusively for military defense and with no living quarters. In the Mid-19th Century the Dutch folly was located on a small island in the Pearl River and used during the Second Opium War. The absence of a condition report does not imply an object is free of defects. All items may have normal signs of age and wear commensurate with their age; these issues will likely not be mentioned in the condition report.
