This example was fig. 107 in the 1982 exhibit "Shadow of the Dragon: Chinese Domestic and Trade Ceramics", held at the Columbus Museum of Art, and authored by Kamer Aga-Oglu. Her entry essay: Porcelain with underglaze blue decoration; Ming, 16th century. Ht. 11.75" A large jar (guan) with a short neck and thickened lip, has rounded shoulders tapering to a slightly flared, unglazed flat base with a thickened edge. A diaper pattern of diamonds, squares, and crosses rims the neck, a band of scrolling lotus with spikey leaves trims the shoulder, and there is a border of plaintain leaves at the foot. On the body are four lions (dogs of Fu) playing with brocaded balls with trailing ribbons. Interspersed are various auspicious symbols including Buddhist and Daoist emblems and the "Eight Treasures."
