Denmark, 1878. Oil on canvas depicting a mountain lake surrounded by wooded slopes and imposing rock formations, in the foreground a wooden mountain hut with a hiker on a path along the water. The composition shows the control of light and atmosphere that is characteristic of Roed's later work. Signed and dated J. Roed 1878 at the bottom right.
