A THANGKA DEPICTING BUDHA SHAKYAMUNI Tibet, early 19th cent. 60,5 x 39,3 cm (118 x 73 cm) The centre of the painting with Buddha Shakyamuni seated in vajrasana on a lotus base with his right hand in bhumisparshamudra while the left is resting on his lap supporting the alms-bowl, wearing a patchwork monastic garment, his face displaying a serene expression, halo behind, flanked by Sariputra and Maudgalyayana, the upper register with Tsongkhapa in the centre flanked to each side by a pupil, the lower part with the white four-armed Sadaksharilokeshvara in the centre flanked by Manjushri brandishing the sword and the blue Vajrapani and all placed in a mountainous landscape, the reverse with the mantras ‘aum ah hum’, in brocade mounting.
