A RARE SWORD AND SCABBARD Tibet, 15th/ 16th cent. L. 98 cm The sword is consisting of an iron blade stuck into a metal pommel, the wood hilt topped with an iron finial wrought with scrolling tendrils at the sides and a flower-head at its top, the wood scabbard embellished with perhaps ray or shark skin, the whole fastened with copper strips and further ornamented to its front with several ajour plaques of a scrolling tendril design From an old private collection in Southern Germany Compare a similar sword and scabbard stored in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum London, inv. Jahrhundert L. 98 cm Das Schwert mit einer eisernen Klinge, die in einen metallenen Knauf gesteckt ist, der hölzerne Griff ist mit einem eisernen Endstück versehen, das an den Seiten mit Ranken und an der Spitze mit einem Blumenkopf verziert ist, die hölzerne Scheide ist vielleicht mit Fischhaut verziert, das Ganze ist mit Kupferstreifen befestigt und an der Vorderseite mit mehreren Ajour-Plaketten mit Rankenmuster verziert.
