A FINE AND LARGE PHYLLITE STONE STELE DEPICTING VISHNU Northeast-India, Pala period, 12th cent. H. 80 cm (Ohne Stift) The horse-shoe shaped stele sculpted in high relief with a large figure of Vishnu standing in samapada on a lotus base placed on a throne base decorated with a pair of kneeling worshippers, perhaps the donors, his principle hands showing the varadamudra and holding the shankha, both secondary hands with gada and chakra, wearing dhoti fastened around his waist with a belt, upavita, bejewelled, his face displaying a serene expression with almond-shaped eyes below incised arched eyebrows, smiling lips, elongated earlobes with ear ornaments, his head topped with the kiritamakuta, flanked by his consorts Bhu holding the fly-whisk and Sarasvati the lute, the back section of the throne carved with various animals below the central throne rod and a pair of gandharvas extending offerings to Vishnu above Southern German private collection - Slightly chipped FEINE UND GROSSE STEINSTELE DES VISHNU AUS PHYLITT Nordostindien, Pala-Zeit, 12. Jahrhundert H. 80 cm (Ohne Stift) Hufeisenförmige Stele in Hochrelief mit einer großen Figur Vishnus, die in Samapada auf einem Lotussockel steht, der auf einem Thronsockel platziert ist, der mit einem Paar kniender Verehrer, vielleicht den Stiftern, geschmückt ist, seine Haupthände zeigen das Varadamudra und halten das Shankha, beide sekundären Hände mit Gada und Chakra, er trägt einen Dhoti, der mit einem Gürtel um seine Taille befestigt ist, Upavita, mit Schmuck verziert, sein Gesicht zeigt einen heiteren Ausdruck mit mandelförmigen Augen unter eingeschnittenen, gewölbten Augenbrauen, lächelnden Lippen, verlängerten Ohrläppchen mit Ohrschmuck, sein Kopf ist mit dem kiritamakuta bekrönt, flankiert von seinen Gefährten Bhu, der den Fliegenwedel hält, und Sarasvati, die die Laute spielt, der hintere Teil des Thrones ist mit verschiedenen Tieren unterhalb des zentralen Thronstabes beschnitzt und ein Paar Gandharvas, die Vishnu Opfergaben reichen, befindet sich darüber Süddeutsche Privatsammlung - Leicht bestoßen
