A fine carved grey-green jade pendant in the shape of two catfish China, ca. 18th cent. L. 6,2 cm From an old East German private collection, collected from the 1960s to the 1990s The decoration symbolizes the phonetic play on words between nian (鲶, catfish) and nian nian you yu (年年有余, "Überfluss Jahr für Jahr") and thus stands for prosperity, fertility and harmonious relationships.
